I honestly can say that Tatting requires a special gifted person with attention to detail. I tried it once and found it hard. Barb has such a skill and she is good at it. She brought a nice collection of threads that were handed down to her by a family member and plans to put them to use. She demonstrated for us Tatting with a shuttle.
Jean believes this Tatting sampler was made in the early 1900's. She inherited it from her stepfather's grandmother.
You can read interesting facts about Tatting by going to this link. I learned that there are actually two other techniques called Needle Tatting and Cro-Tatting.
The scarves to benefit the Men's Homeless shelter have been pouring in. Here's a sample of some that have been collected.

I do hope that some of you take up the shuttle and learn to tat. There's a wealth of free patterns out on the internet and lots of help too. By the way, the sampler is Teneriffe lace - not tatting. VERY pretty, though.
Hi Jane, I will have to share what I learned about the name and the technique used to make the sampler. Thank You.
Hi again, Merci. Did you know that the Palmetto Tatters have lessons in SC - somewhere in or around Columbia, I think. I'll be teaching there in September. Just thought I'd pop by again to let you know!!!
